About Me
I am a multi-disciplinary artist from Houston, TX with a focus in wearable sculpture and fashion design that uses Black literary/lyrical ‘word’ as a conceptual medium. I've recently been accepted to attend Central Saint Martins (located in London, England) Foundation Diploma in Art and Design in the Fall of 2021. This program serves as a prereq that will allow me to explore all four specialist curriculum areas as part of my preparation into a specialist pathway that will lead me into my Bachelor of Arts application.
About Central Saint Martins
Central Saint Martins (CSM) is a world-renowned arts and design college of the University of Arts London (UAL) which has been rated second place in the 2019 QS World University rankings for Art & Design. CSM offers a legendary, top-ranked program in Fashion, winning Business of Fashion (BOF) Global Fashion School Bachelors Ranking every year since launch, as well as the Masters Ranking every year. Central Saint Martins has acted as an incubator for producing world renowned designers such as the late Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, and Zac Posen and other household names in varying fields such as actor Tom Hardy and singer Sade.
It has always been my dream to go to this school and the simple fact that I've been accepted to this campus with a 7% acceptance rate is an immense validation to the level of work that I can produce. Being so close to making this dream of mine a reality, the last thing I would want is for my lack of finances to get in the way of such an promising educational and career building opportunity. I truly feel that this is a crucial moment in time to uplift the voices of young black artists like myself, that design from Black narratives, as we are in the midst of a Black Renaissance.
I'm looking forward to pursuing my education in design, concentrating on developing my creative narrative while focusing on Black/African lineage as my experimental and artistic research. Acquiring this degree will allow me to further my mission to create opportunity within the Black/African American community through way of creating job placements for Black people in the design field, which has a lack in representation as it is. This will help build and give back capital and autonomy to the infrastructure of the Black/African American community through art/design practices, and ecological participatory techniques.
