Help Christopher return home to NY

UPDATE:

Christopher's journey to recovery has been very difficult, but with each day, he continues to show us the immense strength that he possesses. Due to Christopher's delicate state, doctors have deemed it unsafe to transport Christopher to NY as we have planned at this time. We are heartbroken that we are unable to bring him home to have the full support of his family, but Christopher's health and recovery is our main priority. Although Christopher's journey to recovery has been a slow progress, I am happy to share with you all that he has accomplished strides that we were once told he probably wouldn't achieve. We will keep everyone posted on major updates as Christopher continues to recover and becomes medically stable to finally bring him home.

Thank You.

My name is Jennifer Roque, and I've created this fundraiser to help return my brother, Christopher Mateo, back home to NY.

Christopher, throughout his life, has always been strong-minded and pushed through all the obstacles that life has presented him with. Christopher was never fearful; he strived to obtain all that the world had to offer. Through all his hard work, he was able to graduate from Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola University Maryland. He completed a Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP) at Harvard Business School. He pursued an occupation as a Commercial Real Estate at Wells Fargo in Texas. He always set forth into pursuing what others were afraid to pursue. Christopher is an exceptional person who always looked out for other's and always provided a lending hand to make sure no one was struggling.

On March 6, 2022, his life, along with the lives of my family, took a turn for the worse. I received the most heart breaking call where I was informed that my brother was in a tragic car accident and was in critical condition.

Christopher arrived at the hospital not breathing. His lungs were punctured, his pelvis shattered, damage to organs along with internal bleeding, a broken femur, and severed circulation to his left leg. As a family, we have exhausted all our resources with trying to provide Christopher with the support that he needs. We are thankful for our mother, Rosa, who since that day, has stood right by my brother's bedside, leaving everything else behind in NY, including her job.

While being under a medically induced coma, extensive, multiple surgeries were performed to stabilize Christopher while in his stay at the ICU. There were many times when we were informed that Christopher might not make it. He received dialysis treatments, along with being put on the ventilator. He had to endure ECMO and needed an emergency amputation of his left leg. But through all these hurdles, he continued to persevere and prove the doctors wrong.

Just as we thought that things were looking brighter, on June 10, 2022, Christopher was transferred to an LTAC where he would continue his journey of recovery and rehabilitation. That night things took a turn for the worse. Christopher turned ill and stopped breathing. In the time that it took for the nursing staff and EMS to bring him back, he suffered lack of oxygen to his brain. We were informed that due to his injury, they are unsure whether he might fully recover.

We want to continue to support Christopher in his journey to recovery by transferring him to NY where his family can continue to support him best. Unfortunately, Christopher's medical insurance is unable to provide coverage for his transfer and we are unable to meat the cost of the transfer.

My family and I are staying very hopeful. Christopher has pushed through every obstacle since his accident and we are grateful that he is still here with us. With your support, we will be able to provide what is needed for his transportation back home to NY. By providing even a small donation, you can be part of an effort to Christopher’s journey to recovery.

Thank You.
