Help CHRUSP advocate at the UN

Tax deductible
The Center for the Human Rights of Users and Survivors of Psychiatry (CHRUSP) is a non-profit fighting for the worldwide abolition of involuntary confinement and involuntary 'treatment', an atrocity of great magnitude that is commonly overlooked or worse, considered to be a positive good by well-meaning people. We need your financial support to continue education and advocacy at the UN and other avenues to end these harmful practices and the discrimination from which they originate. We also advocate for alternatives to custodial and medical impositions, including peer-based support services and non-violent conflict resolution.

Your contribution of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more could help CHRUSP send delegates to UN meetings and create resources for continued advocacy by users and survivors of psychiatry.

In particular, this year we are planning:
·     Thematic briefings for the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to share our knowledge about the abolition of forced ‘treatment’ and how to address suicide, and to assess legal capacity reforms.
·     A side event at this year’s Conference of States Parties to the CRPD in which invited panelists share ideas about strategies for the abolition of forced psychiatric interventions.
·     Participation in meetings of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, for CHRUSP to do advocacy and network with other organizations having a presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
·     Participation in the UN Open Ended Working Group on Ageing, which is developing a possible treaty on the rights of older persons.

Your support will allow CHRUSP to bring delegates to these meetings in Geneva, New York and Bangkok, and to pay for costs associated with our briefings.

In addition, CHRUSP is engaged in formulating a response to medical practitioners who want to push back against the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities to make it possible for forced interventions to occur on the basis of psychosocial disabilities. With financial help, our campaign could be made more public through websites, booklets, and other resources.

Our board is made up of users and survivors of psychiatry and people with psychosocial disabilities, and we regularly collaborate with broader networks in our movement throughout the world. Your help will bring us closer to eliminating psychiatric assault and ensuring the freedoms and rights of people with psychosocial disabilities.

The organizer of this campaign, Tina Minkowitz, is the CHRUSP president.

Note:  supporters in some countries will be unable to donate to CHRUSP through GoFundMe.  If you prefer, you can use our account at Network For Good.
