Help Chuck Stinson Overcome HLH
Donation protected
A lot of you may know Chuck Stinson from his time as a sports reporter with WLBT or from the talk radio show MS Sports This Morning. Possibly, you may have benefited from his community and charity work or his promotion of organ donation with MORA. No matter how you know him, I think we would all agree that he is a big hearted guy who always puts others first. Now, Chuck is facing some big medical challenges of his own.
In early September 2020, Chuck enjoyed a morning of golf with friends. By that evening, he had developed an intense headache and a fever soon followed. Who would have ever thought that these first symptoms would begin a long and frightening three month journey of ER visits, weeks of hospital stays, rounds of chemotherapy and an eventual airflight from Jackson, MS to MD Anderson in mid-December? Chuck is being treated for a rare blood disorder called HLH. Not only has this awful disease ravaged his body, but the side effects from treatments have left him weak and wheelchair bound.
While this devastating health journey has been filled with physical pain, worry, and uncertainty, it is about to get even harder. Chuck’s only chance at survival is a bone marrow transplant. He will begin an intense physical therapy program right after Christmas to prepare him for the procedure. Chuck and Regina will remain in Houston for the next 5-6 months where he will be receiving treatment and fighting for his life.
Although his immune system has gone haywire and attacked all the good cells in his body, Chuck himself is still the Chuck we all know and love. He is fighting this disease with all he’s got, overcoming obstacles, and looking forward to a future where he can get back to working, golfing, spending time with friends, cheering for the Seahawks, and most importantly spending time with all of his girls.
Through it all, Chuck’s biggest concerns have been that he not become a burden to others and that he is able to take care of his family. This probably doesn’t surprise any of you who know him. He is a true family man with a giving heart.
This account is being set up to help the Stinson family with the enormous financial burdens of his medical expenses and their stay in Houston. The bone marrow transplant alone is expected to cost between $350,000 and $1,000,000. While insurance will hopefully pay for the majority of this, their out of pocket medical expenses are going to be staggering.
All funds raised will go directly to Chuck and Regina to help with both immediate and long term needs. Let’s help ease some of these huge worries for Chuck so that he can concentrate on healing.
The love and prayers of family and friends have gotten them through some rough days. Y’all please keep lifting them up.
