Help Cindy and Dennis Rebuild After Flood Destroys Home
Donation protected
One minute Cindy and Dennis Riley were waking up in their newly purchased home in Swannanoa, and the next they were fleeing as the floodwaters rose quickly, destroying everything they owned except the clothing on their backs.
Cindy is the Director of Programs at the Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry, where she and Dennis have been volunteering and living since the catastrophic devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
After losing everything, they jumped into saving neighbors from their homes and serving their community. They gathered water and food, distributed to those around them, connected those in need to medical services and shelter, and prioritized the needs of the whole town.
With FEMA funds and generous donations, Cindy and Dennis have been able to make a good beginning on rebuilding their home. Moisture and mold have been mitigated, and wiring, insulation, Sheetrock, and the outdoor HVAC unit have been replaced, but they still have a long road ahead of them. Contractor quotes state that at least $250,000 is needed to make the home livable.
In addition to the daunting task of rebuilding their own home, Cindy and Dennis continue to serve those in need in their community. Cindy continues her work with Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry as Program Director for Hope for Tomorrow, offering supportive transitional housing for single moms. Several women displaced by Hurricane Helene are housed by this ministry.
This GoFundMe was started immediately after the flood to help Cindy and Dennis with bare essentials such as shoes, toiletries, and clothing. It has now been updated to focus on helping with the significant cost of rebuilding their home. Cindy and Dennis have also created a wish list for items they lost in the flood for those who prefer to give specific items.

They are such a giving couple who have worked tirelessly to take care of their friends and neighbors during this awful disaster. Now it is time to take care of them and provide them with support so they can continue to support others. Anything helps and is truly appreciated.
