Help Cindy on her recovery journey!

Hello, my name is Pam and I am raising funds for the recovery needs of my sister in law Cindy.

On May 3, 2021, Cindy fell down the stairs at her home and sustained a traumatic brain injury. She was taken to the hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL for emergency brain surgery to relieve pressure and remove blood clots from her brain.

Following that she was in a coma for over 3 weeks with full ventilator support. She slowly began to breathe on her own and required less vent support. Eventually she was breathing completely unassisted with her trach removed.

Cindy began to wake up and is now awake most of the time. This was the answer to our prayers and the prayers of many family members and friends.

She has made truly miraculous progress even to the surprise of her doctors. She was moved out of ICU to a regular hospital floor. She is able to follow simple commands to move extremities , smile, respond to questions with facial expressions, and this week she is beginning to get her voice back and speak a few words.

At this time she requires 24 hour total care assistance since she is only beginning to move her arms and legs with physical therapy and cannot use a nurse call button for assistance. We have been rotating family members as sitters and most of us live out of town. Her husband works 6-7 days a week and can only spend a few hours each day with her. We are seeking skilled nursing placement to continue her rehabilitation until she can progress to a higher level of TBI rehab.

We need funding to help pay for sitters and looking ahead to the months of skilled nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, her medical bills will be overwhelming.

At this time we are unsure what her insurance will cover long-term but there will be co-pays and deductibles to meet even with what insurance may cover.

All donations will go directly to Cindy's care. Our immediate need is to hire sitters to assist her a few days a week and give family members some rest. Beyond that need, all funds raised will be used to pay for Cindy's medical care.
