Bittersweet & Co. has been part of the fabric of the community of Hopkinton for five years now. Two years ago, CJ Dunne purchased the business & began his mission to make it a home to members of the community. On any given day, you'll see him chatting with local artists who proudly display their work in his shop, chatting with all the locals, "UberMoms", soccer dads, working moms, lunching ladies, giggly hipsters, and everyone who keeps the town of Hopkinton running. Having previously tended bar at Bill's Pizza -- everyone knows & loves CJ.
Having come to the United States from Ireland over twenty years ago to pursue the American Dream, CJ worked his fingers to the bone, putting everything he had into his business -- truly a labor of love. He brought the business to new heights & has a produced a small profit each year. He has never taken a salary, instead putting everything into the business. He knew that expanding to include evening hours, entertainment, beer, wine, & tapas would change the landscape of the business forever — enabling him to make a living. On September 11, 2018 the Hopkinton Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to give him his beer, wine, & entertainment license, but he's unable to expand in his current location as originally planned. Bittersweet will be closing by the end of the year. This would be a huge loss to the town of Hopkinton & detrimental to the 7 member staff, who are all part of the community.
There's still hope! We have found a new location, & are ready to go — but this wasn’t something we had anticipated, so we need the help of our friends in the community. We always say: "You know you're successful when the community puts their arms around you -- & that's what happens here in Hopkinton."
Now is the time, for us to come together not only to support CJ, but to keep local business alive & thriving in the town of Hopkinton. We ask that you contribute whatever you can. If you cannot contribute, please share the campaign on your social media as often as you can -- every little bit helps!
