Help to raise funds for an essential electric wheelchair!

EDIT: This is now an urgent matter, the repair company for the big chair came today to try and repair it in his house. They have found that it cannot be repaired in house and needs to be transported to be repaired.

There is no timeframe regarding this, as it is a motor fault, which can take months to sort.

They do not offer temporary chairs or replacements and therefore have told CJ that he will be BED-BOUND FOR MONTHS if not longer!

This isn't right and he is now in a snowballing decline in his mental health and this will, no doubt, have an affect on his physical health too.

This needs sorting and isn't right; we will campaign against it; however, in the meantime, he needs your help to get a chair he can use, such as this one, in order to have a life like most of us do.

Hi, my name is Zara and I live in Southport, I am raising funds for my friend CJ.

Not only does he live with a condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, meaning that he is unable to walk or use his legs, has limited use of his arms and hands and has to have care pretty much 24/7, he lives in the nice and hilly area known as Halifax.

He relies on an electric wheelchair to maintain his independence and, even with this, he needs others with him when he is out due to the limits of this chair. It runs out of battery after 5 miles of usage, is bulky and heavy (I've pushed it, I know) and it cannot get wet in case it breaks.

This chair is in serious need of a full MOT which hasn't been done in over a year. In the last few days, his chair has had an incident due to issues with wheelchairs and curbs.

Whilst going to an event he was so excited for, he got out of the transport van, was trying to get across the road and immediately hit a curb, this was due to there being a blind spot where curbs are as this chair is so big as well as the curb being uneven. Uneven curbs not only cause issues like this for people like CJ but for all people with mobility issues. This has led to his chair completely locking up and now it won't move at all.

This chair is horrible to go out in, it is so bulky that it barely fits in the lift he needs in his house to get into family rooms, which he cannot do at the moment due to it not working, this has left him bed-bound until the chair can be fixed which is planned for this week but that could change, there are no temporary chairs offered and so, he is left to stay in his bed until it is fixed.

This is putting a strain on his mental health and won't be helping with his physical health either, he wants to be as independent as possible and, with having a life-limiting condition, he wants to do as much as he can before his condition potentially gets worse or to the point where he is unable to do anything alone or even passes away.

I am asking you to help me raise the funds for a lightweight, longer-range wheelchair such as or similar to the one pictured.

This chair or one like this will help him have as much independence as possible, will be easier to transport and will be better for him physically and mentally.

This isn't a random whim, this is an issue created by a failing of services having a knock-on effect upon multiple issues. This chair would make it so much easier to travel, be more social and help him experience life like anyone who is freely mobile can.

It isn't fair that he should be left to support himself because services are failing, this condition is due to no fault of his own and he should not be penalised for it, so please, help me out in raising the funds to help him have a happier, more social and active life.
