Help Claudia Study Abroad in Belize

Hi, my name is Claudia, and I am a senior at Canisius College studying Animal Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation. One of the things I was most looking forward to at Canisius was the study abroad opportunities they offer Animal Behavior students. Since I am a senior, this year is the last opportunity to be a part of the study abroad experience. I was excited to learn that I was accepted to go on the travel course to Belize this spring.

During this trip, we will visit a variety of significant wildlife preserves and cultural sites. Some include the Belize Zoo, a community-based howler monkey sanctuary, and Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. We will learn about a Yellow-headed Parrot restoration program and sustainable forestry initiatives. We will conduct observational studies of tropical birds and leaf-cutter ants, participate in night hikes and crocodile spotting, and conduct camera-trapping for large mammals such as the jaguar, red brocket deer, tapir, jaguarundi, gray fox, and tayra. To maximize our learning opportunities, we will visit several ecosystem types, such as tropical forests, tropical savannahs, and wetlands.
