CLEAN AIR LA FAQs
Who are we?
We’re a mutual aid organization in LA offering tools for cleaning indoor air & mitigating airborne pathogens. We focus on indoor shared air by offering a library of tools free or at cost to producers and event organizers. We plan to build a community library of tools through mutual aid crowdfunding. Our goal by cleaning air is to reduce sickness in Los Angeles, every broken chain of transmission matters. Getting sick costs money and many of us can’t afford to miss work, reducing sickness helps everybody in the community.
Why mutual aid vs non-profit?
We have no intention to make money. We are initiating as a mutual aid org and are willing to evolve if/when necessary. We plan to share documentation for full financial transparency.
What tools are we looking to obtain? Why?
Smart Air purifiers - These are hepa air filters. Hepa filters are fans that push air through filters that remove dirt, bacteria, viruses and other things we don’t want to be breathing in indoor spaces. Our initial goal of obtaining x filters is so we will be able to support one large event of x size or multiple events simultaneously at y size. We will also need things for storage and upkeep like extra filters, extension cords, portable batteries, transportation tools[wagon, dolly].
Masks - respirator style masks(n95/KN95) are the easiest and most effective way to clean indoor air. Like a hepa filter for your face it filters exhaled and inhaled air trapping the same unwanted things from entering your body/lungs.
Far UVC - This technology uses light to break down viruses and other bad things in the air. This kind of tech is extra important for protecting performers or others that cannot mask at events.
Aranet Monitors - We would like to have two C02 monitors to offer so we can continue to accumulate air monitor readings at Los Angeles venues. C02 is a proxy for exhaled air in an indoor space as we do not have the technology to read viral existence. Using wastewater data and indoor air readings we can offer better risk assessment of venues.
Plus Life tests - This system is the most affordable and accessible molecular covid test available. These tools would be offered to assure performers are not performing while infected.
Video/Streaming Equip - Our goal is to try to make spaces accessible to those in person & those at home through streaming tech. We are talking with disabled streamer advocates to figure out how best to achieve this with all accessibility needs considered.
Admin costs - running an org isn’t cheap. There are all kinds of costs to do community service so we need lots of subscriptions like canva for designing flyers/infographics, airtable for scheduling and built in backend, domain/web hosting, printing costs for flyers and zines.
