We are launching a legal defence campaign to help Cllr Mothin Ali fight Islamophobia and racism.

SUPPORT CLLR MOTHIN ALI’S LEGAL FIGHT.

RACISM AND ISLAMOPHOBIA WILL NOT GO UNCHALLENGED.

The Far-Right has been using fake news to spread hate and incite riots across the UK against British Muslims, refugees, and citizens from diverse backgrounds.

Councillor Mothin Ali has been wrongfully blamed for inciting violence, and since his election in May 2024, he has been targeted with online defamation and life-threatening messages.

We need to raise £30,000 to support legal action to hold those responsible accountable and set a precedent: Islamophobia and racism will not go unchallenged.

WHY THIS CAMPAIGN MATTERS
This campaign is about more than just covering legal costs; it’s about holding those who spread hate and misinformation accountable.
It’s about fighting back against the fascism tactics of using fake news to incite violence and promote racism against British Muslims and people from diverse backgrounds.

Racism and hate cannot be normalised.

Today, it’s Mothin under attack — tomorrow, it could be anyone.
If these extremists have their way, no one in the UK will feel safe to live openly as who they are.

Supporting this campaign means standing up to fight racism and hate.

WHERE YOUR DONATION WILL GO
Legal actions against the Far-Right extremists accountable
We are crowdfunding to launch Mothin's Legal defence.
The money being raised will be used for the initial solicitor consultation fee and for formally issuing letters to the prominent public figures who are involved in attacking Mothin.

First Step: Legal Notices
We have engaged highly experienced lawyers to launch Mothin's defence. The money being raised will be used for issuing letters to the prominent public figures who are involved in personally attacking Mothin and also constantly spreading hate on Yotube and social medias.
We will be seeking a public retraction and apologies from these agitators to ensure they don't harm people this way again in the future.
Their dangerous actions should have consequences and their behaviour must be held to account.

COST BREAKDOWN
Initial legal consultation - £2,000
Ongoing legal advisory £6,000
Issuing legal notices to list of identified target attackers - £20,000
Other campaign expense - £2,000.

Next Steps: Escalating the Legal Battle
The recipients will have 7 days to respond to our letters and issue their apologies. If they fail to do this, we will escalate this legal battle against them and will explore all avenues to make a sufficient impact. We will not let this behaviour go unpunished.

Donate Today and join Mothin in the Legal fight against Islamophobia & racism.

ABOUT MOTHIN

Mothin Ali, from Leeds, is a dedicated Green Party councillor in the Gipton and Harehills ward and an upstanding citizen who has devoted his life to serving his community. An accountant by profession, his deep commitment to community service, passion for gardening (runs a gardening channel on Youtube called “My Family Garden”), and his role as a religious teacher have earned him widespread respect.

Despite facing prejudice, Mothin has always responded with dignity and has consistently worked towards fostering unity and understanding across diverse communities.

THE STORY OF ONLINE ATTACKS
Mothin Ali’s persecution began right after he was elected as a Councillor in May 2024, representing Gipton and Harehills in Leeds with over 3,000 votes.

In his victory speech, he expressed support for Palestine and used the phrase “Allahu Akbar,” which simply means “God is Great,” dedicating his win to Gaza and the 40,000 Palestinian civilians who had recently died.

The far-right online media twisted his words out of context, falsely portraying Mothin as an extremist. This sparked a wave of online harassment, including death threats, forcing him to temporarily suspend his social media accounts.
If an outstanding and exemplary politician can be attacked so viciously and on a completely false pretext just because he practices his religion, what chances does an ordinary citizen from a minority background have against the fake-news based extremist Far-Right?

Death threats to the “Hero of Harehills”
During the unrest in Harehills, Mothin stepped in courageously to stop the violence, protecting both residents and police. Leading from the front, he called for calm and peace, and his efforts were soon recognised, earning him the title of “Hero of Harehills.”

The Attacks Intensify
Despite his actions, Mothin was falsely accused of inciting the riots. Misinformation spread like wildfire across social media, driven by Far-Right influencers and political figures. Photos and videos of Mothin were deliberately misrepresented, escalating threats against him, including death threats.

The Truth Prevails
Not long after, full video footage emerged showing Mothin as the peacemaker, risking his safety to stop the violence. He stood between fires and protesters, guiding everyone towards peace, and even led the cleanup effort, staying up all night to restore order.
Recognition and Praise
Mothin’s actions were finally recognised by major media outlets like the BBC, The Guardian, The Independent, and others. He was interviewed by Owen Jones and praised by Novara Media on YouTube.

The hashtag #HeroOfHarehills captured the community’s appreciation of his dedication to peace.
After the riots, Mothin also helped organise the event "From Unrest to Unity: A City of Belonging" with Leeds City Council, Baroness Natalie Bennett, and a visiting MP from Romania, showing his commitment to bringing people together and addressing the causes of division.

The Far-Right's use of Islamophobia to spread fear and incite violence has had serious consequences. We've seen a surge in hate across England, with Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, justifying the violence, and fake news sparking riots that led to over 500 arrests.

This has to stop. Now!

Stand with Mothin. Contribute today.
