Hello! My name is Julie Parker and I am the youngest of the five children of David and Sandy Nichols. To say my parents are pillars of the community in Russell County is an understatement. They are both school teachers, and my Dad has actually retired after 20+ years teaching and coaching football and wrestling. And before that, he was an Army Ranger!

Dad went above and beyond for his students and athletes. From taking them in when they had no where else to go (multiple times, and sometimes they came with siblings), to paying for their meals, clothes, and even letting them sleep in his class since he knew some of his students worked to provide for their families and even lived in their cars. He has given back to his community so much and so often, but now he needs our support.

Within the last few years, my dad has been diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Cirrhosis of the Liver. This diagnosis has been difficult for him and our family to bear and comes with needing a very restrictive diet, fasting and massive fluid retention if he even eats one wrong thing or even gets a cold. For example, he can only eat grass fed meat, nothing with gluten, dairy, lectins, sugar and eggs from grass fed chickens or else he will gain literally 30 pounds or more of fluid in his abdomen called ascites. When this happens, he can't breathe, it hurts to move, sleeping is uncomfortable so he is miserable, just to name a few. His diet and exercise helps to get the fluid off, but it can only do so much. He spends hundred of dollars on supplements to help with inflammation and liver health. But has had setbacks such as needing rotator cuff surgery, getting the shingles, covid, and lymes disease. Every illness makes his liver worse even after all he's done over the years to heal his liver. And with all the remedies that he's tried over the years, only one treatment has seemed to work, but it is expensive and insurance doesn't cover it.

A wholistic wellness clinic has popped up in Columbus, GA and they offer a variety of infusions, one of which being Alpha Lipoic Acid or ALA. ALA infusions aren't routinely done in a medical doctor office. Yes there are supplements you can take by mouth, but his liver is so damaged that he is needing the infusions, which a primary care doctor won't do, hence why insurance won't cover it. He was able to get one round of infusions done after a few of his siblings donated to help him but he is needing more in order to get better. So now we are asking the community to come together to support my Dad. I can't think of a more deserving person to need a gofundme. Please donate to help save my dad!
