Let Your Faith Be Bigger Than Your Fear.
HIS fight is now OUR fight!
Stephen is not just my dear “little” brother as I like to joke about and remind him constantly. He’s also a wonderful son, husband, and father to his 3 amazing kids. He is a very loyal and reliable friend to so many and has touched so many lives over the years. Those of you who know my brother can attest to his big heart, courageous spirit and positive attitude. His energy is so infectious that he can light up just about any room and make you laugh until you cry.
For many years he has selflessly given his time and energy to volunteer for his local sports communities. Whether it was many late nights of coaching little league, serving as president over Midlands ballpark, helping his kids’ lacrosse travel ball teams or finally serving as president of his kids’ high school booster club…I have always been amazed at how he managed to do it all. He always found the time and energy and loved these young players as if they were his own. Over the years, he’s had a significant impact on many young athletes’ lives, and for many of them, Stephen became more than just their “coach.” He became a true mentor and, for many, a friend for life. Now, Coach Knight needs us more than ever to come together as a community to help support him during the greatest fight of his life.
Uncle “Stebie” has always been healthy and strong his whole life. Then in what seemed like an instant, he was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare form of blood cancer called Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). The doctor called this type of cancer the “heart attack of all cancers” because it comes on viciously and without any warning. He is now faced with chemotherapy, arsenic treatments, bone marrow biopsies, labs and infusions. Stephen has been at Augusta Medical University in Georgia since Oct 4th, when he was first diagnosed. He will be there for at least a month. We are thankful he’s in the best place where they’re known for having the best success rates in treating this very rare, and aggressive form of leukemia. We pray for a full recovery and long to hear the word “cured.”
We are grateful for the tremendous support shown by our friends, family and loved ones. Most importantly, we are thankful for your prayers for my brother and our whole family. Please pray for his body to continue to endure the chemo plus the arsenic treatments he will begin on Wednesday. Pray specifically for him not to have any major side effects or complications and for his body to respond well to all these treatments. Everything depends on how his body responds. The next couple of weeks are very critical.
All donations will be used for expenses related to Stephen’s cancer treatments, medications and infusions, and anything connected to his recovery. This unexpected challenge will be a substantial financial burden to his family, as he will be in the hospital for at least a month and will need to have someone with him throughout his treatment. We also plan to use this page to provide updates on Stephen’s journey for anyone interested in following along.
We are already so grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and good wishes from everybody in Stephen’s life. It might be a long road ahead, but Stephen is a resilient fighter, and he will make it through this even stronger. Thank you for taking the time to visit his page, and feel free to share on social media. All prayers and any donations are greatly appreciated. Coach Stephen’s Support Squad truly thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts.
