Help Coffee at Large become a Nonprofit

Hi Friends!
We (Coffee at Large) have been looking for ways to adjust this industry! There are many beautiful things about working in coffee, and many less-than beautiful things that only need to be brought to light in order to aid the public and our communities in keeping companies accountable for their actions. This is a nation-wide issue (at the very least), and baristas working for extremely low wages rarely have the emotional/mental/financial capacity to stand up for themselves.
At Coffee at Large, we wish to:
• Shed Light, Give a Voice:
- Feeling supported is an important step toward individual empowerment and the choice to start a conversation.
- While we do shed light on workplace injustices in specialty coffee, we also want to make an example of coffee companies that are finding ways to treat their employees with the respect.
• Provide Support for Baristas:
- We provide organizational education and support through our social media platform as well as private communication and action with individuals looking to learn their rights.
- We provide empowerment for the workers who run companies through social media exposure and public support.
• Provide Education for Employers:
- We wish to continue researching and creating a set of standards for best practice in caring for staff, and then to communicate this through corporate training/forums/events/podcast.
While we will continue to volunteer as much time as is necessary to progress this movement, having a legal means of operating/accepting support/organizing would offer us the opportunity to create a wider scope for our mission and accomplish more than we could ever manage whilst continuing to support ourselves in between the hours we volunteer to this cause.
With your support, we can…
- Hire a lawyer to help with the application to the secretary of state for Nonprofit Status / to advise on how to best run this organization
- Pay fees associated with Nonprofit Status / applying for 501c3
- Pay an accountant to discuss the most transparent and effective means of setting up our finances
- Have some starting capitol to finance our podcast / events / merchandise
Two weeks after our launch, Coffee at Large has 7,500 followers on Instagram. If each of those followers were to give $1.50, (after fees) we would be financed to fully pursue this action.
**If you are unable to support us financially (we understand - we are familiar with minimum wage!) but happen to know an accountant or lawyer who might consider working pro bono for some incredibly thankful accidental-activists, we’d love to hear from you/them!
