Help Complete writer Kate Schultz's short film "End Run"
Donation protected
Hello, GoFundMe readers! My name is Kate Schultz and I'm a screenwriter. Thanks to our donors and supporters we have reached our fundraising goal! We cannot thank you enough.
We are moving forward with the editing process and making plans for entering our film into festival competitions.
We will be leaving this fundraising site open for a short time, as we know some other donations are forthcoming, and like most independent filmmakers, we are eternally short of funds. Thank you so much.
My short-film production team and I are seeking finishing funds for our short film, “End Run,” which shines a light on social justice issues surrounding the legalization of Death with Dignity, also known as doctor-assisted dying.
“End Run '' is set in a region where lawmakers aim to criminalize doctor-assisted-dying for terminally ill patients who live in constant pain. Under such laws, doctors would face years in prison if they help patients to end their lives.
In our film, a sheriff confiscates a terminally ill man’s prescription pills, so that the prescribing doctor can be prosecuted. Or at least the sheriff tries.
“End Run” was shot in June 2024 and is in post-production. We are raising finishing funds to cover editing, sound, color, music and film festival costs.
Although doctor-assisted dying is a deeply complicated issue for patients and their families, some counties and states propose drastic punishment for the doctors involved. Including years in prison.
We are fortunate to have an excellent cast, above and below, with veteran actors Kevin Berndt as the patient, Elizabeth Jones as the nurse, and David Klein in the role of sheriff.
The shoot was crewed by the skilled professionals of Bay Area Indies (BAI), an independent filmmaking collective whose work is distinguished by excellence.
Dana Moe, left, directed and Bruce Rosepapa, right, is our producer. Dana’s award-winning directorial credits include “San Francisco Stories” (2022); “Deepwater” (2018); “Uber Mom” (2016); and “Guilt” (2015). She also wrote and directed “Mute” (2024) and “Rest Stop" (2017), both adapted from Stephen King short stories and filmed with King’s permission.
A producer at Phase 4 Films, Bruce brings extensive organizational experience to the project. He is the screenwriting group moderator for Bay Area Indies (BAI); a multi-project production assistant; and an on-set Covid Compliance Officer.
Above, actor David Klein, myself, actors Kevin Berndt and Elizabeth Jones. Apart from "End Run" two of my other short-film scripts are Official Selections at the 2024 and 2023 London-based Women Over 50 International Film Festivals. I'm also a semi-finalist in Josephson Entertainment's 2024 competition for film-adaptable short stories. My short film "Perishables In Love" was screened at the Channel Islands Indy Fest.
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page, and a huge thank you to our friends and families who have supported this project! All donations will be used for to cover costs of visual editing, sound editing, color, musical scoring, and film festival costs.
