Help Cora Battle Syringomyelia

Donation protected
Hello All  As many of you may know, I have friend, Cora, who has a rare form of spinal cord injury called Syringomyelia. It’s a rare congenital defect where there is a fluid filled cyst inside her spinal cord that expands over her lifetime. Even small expansions (measured in millimeters) can create debilitating new symptoms. Recently she started experiencing one of those debilitating symptoms in the form of something called Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD). This is a potentially life threatening condition where something below her injury level is causing discomfort (which in her case is anything chest down) and to try to communicate that to her, her body has uncontrollable spikes in blood pressure, heart rate, along with other symptoms, like sweating, shaking, nausea, and vomiting. This discomfort can be something as simple as a period cramp, or needing to pee. Over the last 8 or so weeks this has become a regular occurrence, landing her in the ER at least once a week. This has created a deep pile of bills; both for medical costs and living costs.  She is however pursuing two treatments for my AD (as the underlying Syringomyelia is not curable and not treatable at it’s current phase).  On July 7 she am getting a port-a-cath implanted, which basically serves as a permanent IV she can access at home. This will allow her to be able to some of the hospital treatments for AD at home (like certain medications and fluids) without the ER bill. On July 25 she is undergoing a much larger surgery for spinal neurostimulation therapy, where an implanted device will send electrical impulses to her spine, helping to control pain and spasticity, and hopefully limiting the AD episodes she experiences. She underwent a 5 day trial in June and had great success and am very hopeful with this prognosis, as if allowed her to spend more time out of her wheelchair and she was in much less pain than usual.  Until then however not only will she and her family have surgical expenses, but also the costs of medications, doctors appointments, ER Visits, and just regular living expenses. Since January over $300,000 in medical expenses have been billed to her insurance. Between copays, coinsurance, and just flat out denials of coverage, I am sure you can imagine the astronomical costs she is being faced with.  Any help would be immensely appreciated in helping her get through this medical and financial struggle.
