Help Corbett Replace Her Stolen Wheelchair Van-Her Only Home

Donation protected
Our friend and disability activist Corbett O’Toole has been living in a van as a nomad for the past four years. In early June 2024, Corbett’s van (her ONLY home!) was stolen from the yard of her mechanic and with it she lost her clothes, family history, and everything she owned. Corbett used all her disposable money plus sweat and tears retrofitting her van to make it accessible to her as a wheelchair user, and accommodate her needs as a nomad.

It is unclear if Corbett will get any money from insurance but specialized wheelchair vans only have insurance on the basic vehicle which is not nearly enough to cover the cost of purchasing another van and retrofitting it. Please help us raise money for Corbett so she can get a new home. Any amount helps. Please spread the word!

Like many disabled people, Corbett lives on Social Security with an annual income below $20k/year. As she approached age 65, she realized her housing options were limited and ultimately made the difficult decision to live in a van full-time.

As always, Corbett makes it seem like a grand adventure. But her financial situation is always very precarious. After a lot of evaluating, she decided to renovate her van interior to work better with her aging and Long Covid body. That took all her non-essential money.

She cannot afford to recover from this theft without your help. She turns 73 in August. We’re hoping to have her safely housed in a van by then.

All donations will be used exclusively to purchase and modify a van for use with solar power. That way she can live in her van and not pay for campgrounds, which cost more than her monthly income. She’s lived this way for over 4 years

Any amount is appreciated!
