Help Cosmo’s Surgery/Hospital Bills

This morning , February 28, at 6:30 am our 2 year old German Shepherd, Cosmo was hit by a car. We have a working electric fence but we think he ran thru it chasing an animal. The driver who struck Cosmo didn’t even stop. When we carried Cosmo into the house we could clearly see that he was bleeding from the mouth and the rear end. Upon looking at his bottom we could see that his groin area was just split open. We bundled him up and got him into the back of the car and took him to the Copley Veterinary Emergency Hospital. Upon evaluation the Drs said they had never seen an injury quite like this one. His groin was just split open right down the middle as if he had just been pulled apart. He also had a laceration on his paw so they were speculating that maybe his paw had gotten caught up in the vehicle somehow and this torque had just split him apart. He also has a punctured lung and muzzle damage. His front muzzle was bent downward and he lost 1 lower incisor and will probably lose his front upper teeth. He also has a punctured tongue from his other incisor that went thru his tongue. The extent of his lower extremity damage is several torn muscles and tissue damage and damage to the 3 major arteries that run thru the groin area. He’s in ICU under anesthesia for the next couple days until they know if the arteries are too damaged to heal. If Cosmo pulls thru these next 2 days he will be looking at a week at the Copley Hospital healing before coming home. After coming home from all this he will have 2 months of recovery, post op visits and medications. This morning the Drs gave Cosmo a 50/50 chance of making it. This evening they are optimistic and giving him a better chance. The cost of this horrific accident is going to be extremely expensive and getting Cosmo back home and healthy is going to be approximately $6,000-$8,000.
