Help Courtney Miller with medical and finding a kidney!

Spende geschützt
Courtney was in 2nd grade when she had to have surgery to have her tonsils and adenoids taken out due to the fact she would stop breathing at night from how enlarged they were. She ended up getting an infection, went to the ER and got IV antibiotics for it.

Fast forward a little to the middle of 3rd grade. One morning before school, Courtney doubled over from stomach pains. She could barely move and her mom carried her to the car, heading to the ER once again. This time, they were told Courtney’s liver was enlarged and that she needed more testing. After blood work came back, they discovered something was wrong with her kidneys and sent her to a specialist in Lansing. The specialist ordered a biopsy of the kidney’s & Courtney spent the next 4 days in the hospital due to internal bleeding from the biopsy.

The results came in about a week later, 60% of both of her kidneys was gone and she was in stage 5 renal failure. Her mom gave her a kidney in June of 2007. Unfortunately, her kidney only lasted for a couple years before it was rejected & Courtney started dialysis for the first time. She did dialysis for the next three and a half years before her next transplant from a deceased donor in 2015. This kidney would last 8 years before rejecting and in that time, Courtney had a son, Christian, in October of 2018.

Today (08/2024), Courtney is currently back on dialysis and has been for just over a year, waiting to be put on the transplant waiting list at the University of Michigan. She works as much as possible, but with kidney failure comes other health issues.

She was recently (July 26th,2024) admitted to the University of Michigan for dangerously low sodium levels, spending the first 5 days there in the ICU. They placed a temporary port in her neck to do emergency dialysis and try to get the extra fluid out of her body so her sodium levels would rise, but not too quickly because that could cause a seizure or heart attack. After doing dialysis a few days in a row and getting Courtney stable, her doctors decided she needed a more permanent port.

While placing the more permanent dialysis port, the surgeon found a blood clot. The clot has completely occluded her right internal jugular vein and extends into the cephalic vein on both the left and right side. She is currently on a heparin drip & has been for about a week, with little improvement to the clots. Protocol states they wait for at least 10 days on heparin before considering taking the clots out surgically.

As of now, we aren’t sure how long she will be in the hospital for and Brandon (Courtney’s boyfriend) has been bringing her clothes and other essential items. We are asking that you help Courtney and her family so they will have the funds for medical bills, gas so her brandon can continue to go to work, take Christian where he needs to go and bring Courtney anything she may need while in the hospital. The funds would also help cover costs for the up coming school year as Christian starts kindergarten and will need school supplies and clothes. Overall, the Funds will help take some of the financial burden on Courtney and Brandon during such a difficult time. Any donations or shares are appreciated.

Courtney is one of the most selfless people I know. Even in her most difficult hours she’d never want to feel like a burden by asking for help. I’m hoping she’ll see all the love she gets on this post and realize she’s not alone, she has an entire village behind her.

Keep fighting Court! You’ve got this!!! ❤️
