Help cover Harleigh's emergency care.

Hello, my name is Tori and I am fundraising to help a very dear friend of mine cover the emergency vet bills for her fur baby, Harleigh. Harleigh is an absolutely sweet 10 year old, 25 pound, shepherd and fox terrier mix. On the evening of Wednesday, April 3, 2024, she was attacked and mauled by a pit bull in a friend's yard. Her one owner got to the house just in time to get the pit bull off of Harleigh and give her time to somehow get to his truck. My friend and I rushed her to the emergency vet in Winston Salem, about 30 minutes away, but it would have taken them over an hour to be able to help her. We then took Harleigh to the After Hours Veterinary Emergency Clinic is Greensboro, NC. These people are angels in disguise. They immediately took Harleigh to a room to start finding all of her wounds and get her some help.

After an extensive exam, they were able to find over 12 puncture wounds that covered all parts of her body from her head to her tail. They were able to get drains put in and stitch up most of the wounds, but were not sure Harleigh would make it. She didn't have the energy to stand up, was in shock and had lost a lot of blood. The next day they discovered that one of the bites to her stomach had punctured her abdominal wall and caused a hernia. This was going to require surgery to fix, but she wasn't strong enough, she had become septic. Harleigh is a fighter and was finally stable enough late Thursday night for them to perform the surgery. They were able to fix the hernia and also mend the punctures to her intestines. They had to add a feeding tube and catheter to make sure she can receive nutrients. The vet knew that she was going to need 24 hour care, but they didn't have the staff to manage that over the weekend so they arranged for us to transfer her to the Carolina Animal Specialty and Emergency Clinic in Hickory, NC. We dropped her off on the evening of Friday, April 5, 2024 where she will be able to receive around the clock care for the next 48-72 hours. Harleigh has started to some improvement, but is not out of the woods yet.

I decided to start this GoFundMe to help her owners cover the cost of her care. They are very devoted owners who will do ANYTHING to help their fur babies. They want to give their baby the best chance to survive instead of just opting to euthanize her without trying to save her, but they are both on disability and a fixed income. The procedures, medications, surgery, and hospital stays that Harleigh has had just to this point have caused them a tremendous financial strain. The bills so far have reached close to $7,000. Harleigh is going to need a lot of after care as well as she heals. I want my friends to be able to focus on the recovery of their baby and not worry about the cost that her care will take. Any help they receive will be GREATLY appreciated. If you can find it in your heart to donate, any amount will be a HUGE help and a true blessing to this family. Thank you in advance.
I have posted a few pictures of her injuries from the night of the attack and will continue to update on her progress. **The pictures are graphic** The last picture is of her today when we moved her to the facility that she is at now.
