Help Pay For Hospice Care Costs For Kathy Sylvester

This GoFundMe has been created on behalf of Mike and Kathy Sylvester. Below, I am sharing words from their daughter Leah Sylvester.

In April 2024, Kathy was diagnosed with Metastatic Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Our world was turned upside down by this news. Kathy had to stop working immediately and began intensive cancer treatment. At first, the treatment showed promise, but her latest scan revealed that the cancer has spread. Kathy is now too weak to continue chemotherapy and requires full-time end-of-life care.

Kathy has dedicated her life to helping others. A public school teacher since 1996, she poured her heart into her work and continued teaching until the day of her diagnosis. Wherever Kathy goes, she seems to meet someone whose life she’s impacted. Now, we’re asking the community that Kathy has cared for so deeply to support her in her greatest time of need.

On top of being a dedicated teacher, Kathy Sylvester is an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. To know Mike and Kathy Sylvester is to know kindness and generosity.

Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover Kathy’s hospice costs, past medical bills and her celebration of life. While insurance will cover some of the medical expenses, it doesn’t cover room and board for hospice. As a family, we’re doing our best, but none of us are in a position to stop working to provide the care Kathy needs full-time. Mike, Kathy's husband of 33 years, has been an incredible caregiver, but the demands of the last few weeks have left us overwhelmed.
