Another Airport Kitty has been rescued!
Meet Kolohe, which means rascal/mischievous in Hawaiian! Last night I saw a post about an injured cat in Kahului, and I found out that she was in the parking area at the airport in Kahului. Although it was almost 10pm I decided to head over to look at the kitty, and also discussed the situation with Sarah of Kitty Charm Farm, and even though she was literally just walking off the plane from a long day of travel she of course she immediately said that she would help the kitty if I determined she really was hurt. I went and confirmed that she was indeed injured, but since there was no bleeding or obvious open wounds, I decided that she would be OK waiting to see the Dr until today vs an immediate ER visit. I took her home, made her comfortable, and then Sarah got her into the Vet this afternoon.
If you’re not familiar with what severe bruising looks like (a sign of impact, as well as rat poison), we are going to try to attach a video! (If we are unable to do so it is viewable on the Kitty Charm Farm Facebook Page, and I will include a screenshot from the video showing the bruising on her stomach!) The awesome Dr. Height at CMAC did not let this one slide by. The bruising was invisible since it was under her fur, so whilst she was sedated for x-rays, her stomach was shaved to make sure there wasn’t something else going on. Sure enough, it was found that she had severe bruising. This led the Dr to suggest a blood test just in case this was not an impact injury (her x-rays showed no broken bones). Based on the blood test results, we were able to determine that this was not poisoning. It is a very unlikely that this impact injury was caused by a car, but it could have happened. Unfortunately though, she was in an area where it very possible that she was kicked, and this is what the Dr strongly believes happened. We can’t think of any other way to have a major impact on that area of belly, but of course there are things that sometimes happen in weird ways - I.e. her somehow being hit by a car whilst she was jumping up and her stomach was facing the car and was then hit in a way where the bruise resembles that of a kicking injury.
Her bill today was slightly over $900 and I wanted to try to raise some money to help pay it off since Sarah ALWAYS helps when she can, and by helping to offset the bill she will be able to continue doing so! I will also attach proof below of the bill that has already been paid in full at Central Maui Animal Clinic. I have set the goal for $1600 because we are also planning to export her if her microchip does not lead to an owner, and there will be further costs for that.
Kohole has been living at the airport for 2 years, but she now is about 5 years old, and her chip tells us that she was originally living in Wailuku. We are tracking down the human that fixed her to find out if she’s a Missing Kitty or one that needs a home. Sometimes these sad scenarios lead to a much better life, and that’s what we’re hoping to do here.
