Help cover Mac's vet bills from pitbull attack

On August 23rd, our 4 year old beagle mix, Mac, and our 7 year old German Shepherd, Freya, were playing outside together in our fenced in backyard, when 3 vicious pit pulls dug under our fence. They attacked Mac as he defended Freya. When we went outside we found Mac in a very rough state and rushed him to the hospital.

Once we got there, they found he had severe lacerations, swelling on his brain, and he was temporarily blind from a concussion. The doctor spent 4 hours getting him stable enough to transport to an overnight facility. They thought Mac had a chance of survival since no organs were damaged, so we admitted him for 24 hours.

The next day we got a call that Mac was not doing well. It had been almost 24 hours since the attack and he was still not stable enough to be put under anesthesia to clean and close up his wounds, which were healing with dirt in them. They also believed he had a tracheal tear which was making it difficult to breathe. We had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye.

We were counting on being able to recover funds from the vet bill from the owner, but the dogs have since "disappeared" and they cannot determine who the owner is, despite the fact the dogs had been on the property behind our house.

Mac was such a sweet boy and was friends with anyone who came to our house. Our family was unprepared for this and we are completely heart broken. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
