Help cover medical bills for Nick Winslow

Hi, I'm Monica. This Gofundme is on behalf of my son in law Nick Winslow (34 yo) and my daughter Adrienne Vaughn.

In March Nick began having trouble breathing. After a couple of Dr visits and treatment for Bronchitis he became progressively worse. My daughter took him to the closest hospital where they determined he was too sick for them to take care of and they intubated and LifeFlight-ed him to Oklahoma Heart Institute hospital. After what seemed like every test possible, they determined that he needed the valves in his heart replaced. Before surgery could be done, they had to keep him intubated and in induced coma until his lungs were strong enough to handle it. Eventually surgery was completed and Nick began the slow process of therapy and medications to recover. After 21 days in the hospital (14 in ICU), he was allowed to go home. A constant regimen of antibiotics was required to stop whatever infection caused the damage. Physical therapy, cardiac therapy and home health care began too.

At home he was recuperating and taking numerous meds everyday. He seemed to be getting better.

After 3 weeks his breathing became difficult again and my daughter took him back to the local hospital who sent him by ambulance back to the Heart Institute.

More testing determined that the valves that were just replaced were damaged again plus an additional valve. They think the unidentified infection had somehow hidden in his system and reinfected and damaged everything again. This required another surgery to replace the just replaced valves starting the whole process over again. He is still in the hospital starting recovery therapies.

Nick had not been working for a while because of his physical health, but was just about to start a new job the day he had to go to the hospital. Nick IS covered under Adrienne's insurance, but deductibles, out of pockets and and the helicopter ride are going to be terribly expensive.

Adrienne has been staying at a hotel in Tulsa to be near him the entire time. Not to mention living on one income for a long recovery time.

Then doing it all again!

In addition, Adrienne works in a grant funded position and has been using all her sick and personal time to be by his side.

Some of the bills from the first surgery are beginning to come in and even with insurance coverage, they are a lot to handle on one income. This fund is to help with the medical bills, transportation expenses, and living expenses that are going to start adding up soon.

Those who know and love Nick and Adrienne know they are a terrific, sweet, couple who dote on their kitty babies. They celebrate their 5th anniversary this June.
