In the very small hours of October 20th, I was experiencing a lot of severe pain and vomiting. Having just finished antibiotics for a UTI, and having been told to look out for signs of kidney infection, I went to urgent care as soon as they opened. They would not treat me because they couldn't run any labs or imaging, and sent me to the ER. I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a kidney infection and treated with IV medications and more medications to take at home. Even though I was feeling a lot better, two days after completing the antibiotics, I was suddenly in a LOT more pain that came on very suddenly. I tried to wait it out at home, but finally went to the ER very early on November 2nd. My kidney infection was not gone, but it also turned out I had two gallstones blocking the bile duct to my pancreas and causing pancreatitis, and my gallbladder was badly infected.
I had emergency surgery the same morning to remove the two gallstones so my pancreas could work properly again, and gallbladder removal surgery the next day. My gallbladder was in very bad condition and very infected. I was able to go home on November 5th. I am still recovering.
In February 2024, we lost our health insurance when David was let go from his job during a massive layoff event. He has been working full-time in a contract job since May. We were not able to sign up for insurance that was eventually offered through the job, due to cost, since it is not subsidized by the employer at all.
The bills for both the initial hospital visit (10/20) and the surgeries and inpatient stay (11/2-11/5) have started rolling in. There are at least two more bills that are expected to come in (surgeon and radiology), and I do not know what the totals for them will be.
So far, I have been able to pay for urgent care, my follow-up appointments (GI and GP so far, with surgical follow-up in a few days), and a cash settlement for the 10/20 hospital bill. Of the remaining bills that I am aware of, my known outstanding balance is $55,876.43.
The hospital is currently willing to consider a cash settlement for the 11/2-11/5 bill if I can offer them a one-time lump payment. Otherwise, the monthly payments will be somewhere north of $3,000/month.
Today, I'm asking that if you have the means and desire to do so, that you please consider helping me and my family with these bills. Your help is very appreciated. ❤️
