Help Cover Randy Thein's Medical and Funeral Costs

Donation protected
My name is Blake Johnson,

I am the great nephew to Randy Charles Thein and Loni Thein. Unfortunately, our family was hit with the unfortunate event of Randy passing away on October 8th, 2024.

To give a little insight, Randy battled numerous times in and out of the hospital for multiple different things for 14 years after his ATV accident on February 6th, 2010, that left him in a paraplegic state. This made a very normal life for Randy and Loni harder due to both of them being injured and not having the abilities to work a normal job. Even through this setback in life, Randy persevered and still found his abilities to live a normal and hardworking life doing what he needed to do to make sure things were taken care of to the best of his abilities.

On September 1st, 2024, Loni found Randy unresponsive at home in his bed and immediately called 911. From there, he was rushed to West Union Hospital where they did scans and tests which determined he was in a septic shock state. From there, he was rushed and transported to Mercy One Hospital in Waterloo to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

At first, they were able to stabilize him and he was awake and talking for a few days, but then everything hit the fan. He went unresponsive again in the ICU and they had to intubate and put him on a ventilator.
During this time, he had to go through multiple surgeries, was diagnosed with pneumonia, and had to undergo multiple tactics, tests, and scans. Also, during this time, he ended up contracting COVID and his levels took a hit because of this.

Eventually, after all of this, he was able to sustain better and more effective levels and they were able to wake him up again. After waking him up and him being on the ventilator for 27 days, the doctors felt the best chance and decision was a tracheostomy. He got the surgery and it was successful and went well. From here, he did great, was fully awake and coherent, following commands and responding well.

Until 6 days later on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, where he coded twice, leaving his liver in very bad condition. He was revived both times. Even though his liver was left in a bad state, he woke up and was coherent and very aware.

From here, he took a turn for the worse, with all important organs beginning to shut down, leaving our family with a decision to make. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his condition and injuries and passed away Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, surrounded by our family.

Unfortunately, he does not have life insurance.

As a family, we are now left with a hefty bill because of this that includes hospital bills, other bills, transportation costs, food costs, and funeral and visitation costs.

We are asking for your help and compassion/care to help us through this rough time. We appreciate any donations and help with these costs and will forever be grateful for it. Anything is everything to us and we know Randy would be grateful too.

Thank you,

Our family
