Recycling Narratives Exhibition
Venue: Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany
Date: January 10-16th, 2024
We need the communities help and support in order to put on this fabulous exhibition. The collaboration will be between several artists on a project centred around intimate personal narratives. This venture aims to celebrate the richness of human experiences, highlighting individual stories that reflect a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, and identities. By doing so, the exhibition seeks to create a range of emotions, inviting viewers to connect with the art on a personal level while also encouraging reflection on the broader social context of today's world.
The chosen themes for this exhibition are as varied as the artists themselves. Culture, background, beliefs, religions, socioeconomic status, mental health, LGBTQ+ identities, and more will serve as the lenses through which these personal narratives are explored. “Recycling Narratives” aims to explore the power of personal experiences and the ways in which we can use existing narratives to create new works of art such as painting, sculpture, video, photography and mixed media installations.
This exhibition also aims its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Each artist, hailing from different corners of the globe (Wales, Canada, France, Singapore just to name a few) and representing various stages in their careers, embodies the principles of equality and inclusivity. By incorporating mid-career, early-career, and established artists, it fosters an environment that welcomes and values artists from various points in their creative journeys. The intention is for visitors to leave with a sense of thoughtful reflection on the complexities of today's world, seen through a subjective lens. By presenting personal stories and emotions in a collective space, the exhibition aims to foster empathy, understanding, and dialogue among viewers whilst underscoring the importance of storytelling in fostering connection and reflection in today's ever-changing society.
The venue, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, is an old hospital building with a history dating back to the 19th century. This historical backdrop aligns with the theme, as it symbolizes the idea of repurposing and reinventing narratives. Just as the old hospital has been transformed into an exhibition space, the stories and experiences shared within its walls will invite viewers to consider the ways in which personal narratives can be given new meaning.
Since December of 2021, our team has been working tirelessly on a mission that we hold dear to our hearts. It revolves around creating an exhibition that serves to be a merging of art, culture, and the human experience. Over the course of many months, our journey has been both challenging and rewarding, such as trying to find the perfect space, the assembly of talented artists, the securing of funding, materials, networks, the collaboration with graphic designers, etc. who share our vision. Our journey now, extends into these final months of 2023, a period that is pivotal for our project. We are actively engaged in the task of seeking funding to support the realization of our artistic vision. Funding is the lifeblood of any ambitious artistic endeavor, and it enables us to bring our creative dreams to life. Thus why we are here today.
The proceeds will go towards costs such as materials, printing, advertising, distribution of the artworks, food and drinks.
Thank you for taking the time to read all the above, and we look forward to seeing you at the show!
