Help Cristina and Steve After the Eaton Canyon Fire

Donation protected
My name is Nena Carlos-Bautista. In the early morning of January 8th, my sister Cristina - who would have been celebrating her birthday - her husband Steve, and their two children Lucian and Mila, lost their beloved family home in Altadena and everything within it in the Eaton Canyon fire. Thankfully, they were able to escape safely with all of their pets but with little else. They are infinitely grateful to all be safe, healthy, and together, but losing their home of the last 24 years in a community that they love has been devastating. Their rustic home was their sanctuary, where birthday parties, gatherings, and countless special moments took place.

Cristina, who runs a nonprofit organization for low income first time mothers called New Familia in Lincoln Heights, and Steve, who has been teaching science at Monrovia high school for more than a decade, are kind, generous individuals, who love and care for their community. They enjoyed going on walks in the neighborhood, around JPL and the Rose bowl, and raising their children in the small businesses around Old Town Altadena. Mila and Lucian, attend college, are products of their local public schools, and work in the area, Lucian at Cafe De Leche and Mila at Starbucks. They both loved the home in which they were raised, and made it a home for their three cats, three dogs, geckos, snake, turtle, and fish, all of which are with them now.

We are asking for support for the Carlos-Burns family for the unexpected costs that have come as a result of this tragic loss and that might not be covered by other sources of aid. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in helping them recover as they face this challenging time.
We realize there is great need for so many families and appreciate your support and for sharing this fundraiser with others who may want to help.

(All funds will be used for general disaster recovery needs that are not covered by another source such as FEMA aid or private insurance.)
