Help Curtis Cook after life changing accident

Hi my name is Diane Boulton and I’m raising Funds to help my Sister in Law Simone Vale/Curtis Cooks mum to assist in the purchase on a wheelchair friendly vehicle.

On 9th October 2023, 21 year old Curtis Cook was in a life threatening workplace accident where he required CPR and was placed on life support at the scene before being airlifted to ICU at the Alfred hospital with severe head injuries and multiple brain bleeds.

Upon arrival at the Alfred Curtis required 2 emergency surgeries. One to drill a hole into his skull to insert a monitoring device into his brain to monitor the brain bleed pressures and another to stitch up a large laceration to the side of his face which was down to the skull bone.

Curtis remained on life support for 4 weeks with Drs unsure as to if he would ever wake up.

Curtis was slowly weaned off life support and has now woken up out of a coma.

His road to recovery will be long and difficult. He faces many challenges ahead with no guarantees of a particular outcome or how long his recovery journey will take.

He is currently an in-patient at an acquired brain injury rehabilitation Hospital in Melbourne where he is trying to learn to sit, stand, walk and talk all over again.

When he is able to return home he will require ongoing therapies, treatments and medical appointments and will still require wheelchair assistance ongoing.

The current family car does not have the capacity to transport a wheelchair which will be required to transport Curtis to and from therapies and medical appointments and to include him in family activities and outings.

Curtis’ Mum, Simone has not been back home as she been by Curtis’ bedside since the accident in early October. She has had to take an indefinite period of leave and unpaid leave to care for and support Curtis during his long recovery, leaving the family in a difficult position financially for an indefinite period of time.
