Within the first week of taking office, the new administration signed number of executive orders that significantly impact CWS Lancaster's work empowering refugees and immigrants, including indefinitely suspending the United States Refugee Admissions Program as well as multiple actions to eliminate access to asylum and other protections for people seeking safety.
On Jan. 31, Church World Service (CWS) informed U.S. based staff that the organization would be implementing a furlough for a significant number of employees due to the impact of recent executive orders, stop work orders, and funding freezes across the organization’s programs.
On February 3rd, approximately 2/3 of CWS Lancaster Staff were placed on a temporary unpaid furlough which is anticipated to last for at least two months, with the length of furlough ultimately dependent on governmental restrictions and federal funding.
