Help Cynthia Thomas and her family after tragedy

On Sunday, September 25, 2022, Cynthia Thomas' son Christian was admitted to Ben Taub Hospital in the Houston Medical Center after being victimized by a shooting in Northwest Houston. Christian sustained nine gunshot wounds and required a series of surgeries to jumpstart his healing process - 2 down, 3 to go. He is currently paralyzed from the waist down as he suffered a severe spinal injury and fractures in both legs. Christian also sustained injuries to his dominant left hand. After his surgeries, Christian is expected to endure a rigorous neurological and rehabilitation treatment plan as he strives to regain his strength and ability to walk again. He will also need a mental health treatment plan to combat the emotional strain and PTSD he suffers.

Christian, age 17, is a senior at Cypress Ridge High School (CyFair ISD) and expects to graduate in May 2023. He likes to spend his free time working at Little Caesar’s and playing AAU basketball for a local gym in the area. He was looking forward to joining his high school baseball team this coming season.

Cynthia Thomas is one of our most exemplary employees. For those who have not had the pleasure to meet Cynthia, she’s the Lead Payroll Tax Specialist for the Zenefits Tax Team. She spends most of her free time mentoring the kids in her community, building her professional tax background as an Enrolled Agent and caring for three additional children, Cameron, Caylon, and Ce’Niya.

With all this happening in her life, Cynthia has continued to show up for her team, colleagues, and clients. Why? Because she finds work as her happy place. A place to dive deep into solving our most complex tax cases. A place to go above and beyond to give our clients peace of mind. A place to distract her from the reality of the current nightmare she’s living through.
