Help Dad Recover from Two Knee Surgeries
Donation protected
On Sunday, March 9th my dad took a terrible fall while dog sitting for his neighbors. He loves this dog and loves dogs sitting for them. While taking it for a walk my dad went down on both of his knees. He is a stubborn guy and did not go in to be seen until Wednesday, March 12th.
On Wednesday, March 12th he needed to have an emergency surgery on his right knee, the same knee that needed surgery due to a fall from 2 years ago, and they had to drain fluid from the left knee and reposition his knee cap.
A week later he was finally moved from the hospital to a nursing home for rehab. He has been in the nursing home since. On Friday, April 11th he had a follow up appointment with a knee specialist as his left knee was having a "popping" feeling. After an ultra sound and MRI it was determined that there was major damage from the original fall that was not found due to the amount of swelling. We met with a surgeon on Thursday, April 17th and it was determined that he would need an additional surgery on his left knee to repair 3 of the 4 tendons that are above the knee cap.
On Monday, April 21st he had the surgery on the left knee and on Tuesday, April 22nd he was able to return back to the nursing home to start the new rehab on his left knee and continue rehab on his right knee.
My dad has been out of work now since March 10th and could be out for another 3-6 months (3 months minimum) while he continues to rehab both knees. He is looking at at least another 2-3 weeks of nursing home stay for rehab and then continued physical therapy at home/out patient.
These funds will be used to help cover his medical bills that are not covered by insurance & his monthly expenses as his short term disability only covers the first 12 weeks at 60% of his pay.
My dad has always been someone who works hard and takes care of things himself so for him to allow me to "ask for help" is not something that is something that came easy.
Thank you for anything you are able to do. Please keep him in your Prayers as we continue through this journey.
