Help Support My Dad in His Battle Against Stomach Cancer
Dear friends and family,
I’m reaching out during a difficult time for my family. My dad, Nghia Dao, was diagnosed with gastric (stomach) cancer earlier this year, and he’s currently facing a difficult journey filled with multiple treatments and surgeries.
- 2 major surgeries (remove gastric obstruction bypass with complications)
- 4 sessions of chemotherapy (complete)
- 1 major surgery (remove the tumor)
- multiple unexpected emergency room visits
- 4 sessions of aggressive chemotherapy (in process) - commuting 4 days a week from Oxnard to LA (2+ hours per day round trip)
- 5 weeks of radiation (post-chemo) — commuting 5 days a week from Oxnard to LA (2+ hours per day round trip )
Each step has been a difficult challenge, and my dad is losing strength/energy as he fights through these treatments. My dad has stopped working since April 2024. He has lost over 50 lbs and stopped eating solid food for 8+ months. Also, he is allergic to the aggressive chemotherapy treatment, which requires more hospital visits and medications. All hospital visits are located in LA because we want the best doctors and the best treatments to ensure a higher success rate. It hurts me to see my dad struggle through all of these procedures.
My dad has always been a source of strength and support for our family, showing unwavering love and resilience. He is one of the strongest people I know, and it hurts me to see him losing hope. Our family is in need of help so, we are sharing about our journey now. The medical bills are piling up, and the costs of treatments, medications, and daily living expenses are becoming overwhelming. Our family is getting burned out from commuting from such a far distance multiple times per week.

Our family has been silently fighting this battle but we are reaching a point of burnout. We are setting up this GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden and allow my dad to focus on his recovery. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference. Additionally, your words of encouragement and support mean the world to us during this tough time.
