Help Dan Lomba in his fight against ALS!
Donation protected
Hello, I’m writing on behalf of my father, Daniel Lomba. Dan was diagnosed four years ago with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, at age 57. ALS is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that impacts physical function due to the degradation of motor nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over time, those diagnosed with ALS lose all function of their muscles, leaving patients paralyzed and unable to care for themselves. Although those diagnosed with ALS lose their physical form, their brain functioning stays, effectively trapping them in their own body. ALS is a terminal diagnosis, and Dan is entering the later stages of the disease.
Dan is a beloved father, son, professor, and friend to many. Dr. Lomba has taught as a professor of economics for nearly three decades at Northeastern University, Umass Dartmouth, Harvard, and Bridgewater State University, although his true passion has always been music. Despite his diagnosis, he has continued to play in bands, mentor students, and spend time with his loved ones. While the last few years have had their challenges, Dan continues to live his life with grace and dignity. Currently, he is being cared for by his children. However, his disease has progressed to the point where he needs substantial assistance beyond what we can provide, both physically and financially.
Despite our best efforts and around-the-clock commitment to caring for our father, it is becoming impossible to give Dan the care he needs without outside resources. My dad needs to be consistently cared for throughout the day and night. Our family is seeking to hire in-home nurses to help at times, but the financial burden is steep, and we can only cover a fraction of the costs. All donations are greatly appreciated; anything helps! 100% of the funds directly contribute to the cost of his care. Thank you so much for reading Dan’s story. Your time and contribution are worth more to us than you could ever know.
