A terrible blow to a Midland wife and mother of a 15-year-old son. The unthinkable has happened to our vibrant Dana Soots. At just 49, Dana suffered a massive stroke on June 5th. She was airlifted to Charlotte’s Atrium Main Hospital where she underwent emergency brain surgery, leaving her partially paralyzed. After spending 32 days in the hospital, Dana is now home. The incident has led to a diagnosis of metastatic melanoma of the brain. Dana’s journey is just beginning. She began radiation to the brain on July 12th. She is now confined to a wheelchair and handicap bed.
If you have been lucky enough to know Dana, you have experienced her zest for life. Vibrant, spirited, giving, loving. The kind of person that “dances like nobody’s watching” is a perfect description of Dana. It was a common occurrence for Dana to be uplifting to others. Dana absolutely loved working at Lanier Materials. To say she adores her work family is an understatement. She is the bright light to her husband Eric and son Davis. At only 5 foot tall, Dana presence is larger than life.
The suffering that has befallen the Soots family has led to multiple challenges. Dana’s bed now in the front living room to accommodate space so Eric can sleep close to her. They do not want to be apart. The home is not handicap accessible and the family is struggling with making the needed changes. In addition, Dana’s job supplied the family with health insurance as Eric is self-employed, working day and night to keep it together. The financial burden is taking its toll. Family is making meals and taking Dana to her radiation appointments, but the co-pays are adding up. The loss of Dana’s income is significant in addition to fighting cancer.
Friends and family have pulled together with this GoFundMe in hopes to relieve a little financial burden. The family home needs handicap modification. Work on a wheelchair ramp has begun, but not complete. The one bathroom is not handicap accessible. Any monetary donations, labor, or supplies are greatly appreciated.
Please find it in your heart to pray for this beloved family for strength and healing as our merciful God is the provider of all things. God bless you ~the Family and Friends of Dana Soots.
