Help Dana Fight Cancer

For all of you that know my mom, Dana, you will already be aware that she is one of the kindest humans on the planet, ready to help any person or animal that crosses her path. She is always around to lend her animal expertise to those with sick and injured animals. For over 30 years Dana has made it her life’s work to help and care for animals, she is an invaluable resource to the community of animal-lovers around her. And now, she needs a little help in return.
About two weeks ago, Dana was diagnosed with Stage 4 Invasive Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Throat. And while the prognosis is encouraging, it will still involve radiation therapy five days a week for six weeks as well as chemo treatments once a week for six weeks. And within those treatments come almost innumerable other costs. She will need help from a nutritionist to make sure her body is ready to take on the rigors of radiation and chemo, dental visits to make sure Dana can best protect her teeth during the radiation therapy, a special (read: expensive) mask to protect her teeth, facial bones, eyes, etc. during radiation, and many other costs that we cannot even expect to know yet. Those who have been through a similar ordeal understand that the costs do not end with the basic treatment plan of radiation/chemo.
Unfortunately, there is a huge barrier for Dana to get the treatment and care she needs to get back on her feet. She does not have any medical insurance. While our family is looking into many other options for people without insurance who face dire circumstances, we know that that will only provide a portion of what she needs to get back to what she does best, caring for all the people and animals that cross her path.
