Help Daniel with His Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Hey Everyone,

As some of you know, Daniel was in a climbing accident on the 28th of June while climbing in Yosemite. He fell between 50+ feet and hit three ledges. Because of his mountaineer training, he could assess his injuries and keep himself alive while he contacted 911. They were able to get there in time and get him the care he needed.

Other than friends and family, there was nothing Daniel loved more than climbing. So he spent the past decade training and conditioning so that one day he can reach his goal: Climb El Capitan in Yosemite. As he was training for this on Washington Column in Yosemite, he fell and sustained quite a few injuries.

He was airlifted from Yosemite to a local hospital in Fresno to treat his injuries. He fractured his knee cap, cracked some ribs, and had a deep gash in his inner thigh. The rescue team and doctors told him he was lucky he was alive. After being airlifted, he was treated in the emergency department's trauma unit, where they ran several tests, sutured the wound on his thigh, and treated his broken knee. Fortunately, he was released that same night but has a long road to recovery. We know that along with his recovery, there will be an extensive medical bill for all the emergency care he received. We are just seeking some help to cover some of the costs I listed below that may not be covered by insurance since he was sent to a hospital that was out of network. He may also need surgery to repair his knee, we will find out in the coming weeks and will provide updates as they come.

The cost will cover the following (I did some research and found the average cost of each):
X-rays: between $260 and $460
Emergency airlift: $20,000-$40,000
CT scan: $3,000
Estimate income lost from work (about six weeks): $7,200

Daniel loved dancing his way up the walls and the community he has met in climbing. Finally, he found a home in a group of people with which he could share a common sense of identity and a love for climbing. I had never seen my brother so happy than when he was climbing or talking about climbing. This was his passion and calling in life. I want to make sure that he can recover and return to doing what he loves most.

We truly appreciate any help you can provide, even if it is just some words of encouragement to him. It pains me to see him in this state, but I know he will bounce back up and continue to chase his dreams.

Thanks,
The Santos/Kaldor/McDonald Family
