Help Daniella through her Battle

Hi, my name is Janie Palacios. I’m a mother of 3 beautiful baby girls ages 7, 3 & 1. I’m a stay at home mom and craft occasionally to help with the bills around the house. My husband works full time at the bank but is currently at the hospital with us during these hard times.

This past Friday, July 30, 2021, Daniella (3) started complaining of an abdominal pain on her right side. She had a fever and vomited during the night. In my mind, I though “appendicitis.” I called her pediatrician but their office didn’t open til 1pm. My daughter was screaming in agonizing pain asking me to take her to the doctor. I knew something was wrong. We went straight to the ER & waited for lab results and had a CT scan with contrast to verify if it was in fact appendicitis. After a good while of waiting, the doctor came in to give me the news no mother ever wants to hear. Daniella has a tumor on her right kidney the size of a grapefruit. We were immediately flown to Corpus to a children’s hospital. After undergoing more lab work and ultrasounds/CT scans, they’ve decided to remove the whole right kidney because of it’s size. On August 3rd, the doctors removed her right kidney as well as some lymph nodes that looked suspicious. 

On August 10th, her pathology report came back and unfortunately it’s not Wilm’s tumor as the doctors suspected. She has an extremely rare tumor called Anaplastic Sarcoma (Stage 3). Its so rare only 27 cases have been known since 2007. Her treatment plan consists of 5 weeks of radiation to her whole abdominal area along with 6-8 months of chemotherapy. 

On August 25 she was sent to Houston to get a PET scan for her whole body. Luckily everything looks clear and no other signs of cancer anywhere else were seen. 

On August 26, she started with her chemotherapy over at University Hospital in San Antonio and radiation over at May’s Cancer Center on August 30. 

During this time, we’re having to stay in San Antonio since she’s being seen daily leaving my two other girls back home with their grandparents.
