Help Danielle Leonard fight endometriosis

Please help Danielle Leonard fight endometriosis.

Danielle is a beautiful, young woman who has been needlessly suffering for years with endometriosis.  She has gone to numerous doctors and clinics begging for some relief from this debilitating disease, but her pleas have fallen on deaf ears.  She was told she was too young for a hysterectomy.  The doctors either did not know or care enough about the disease to provide the appropriate care or they thought she was exaggerating the pain.  Danielle followed all advice given, but none of it relieved her of the unbearable effects of endometriosis.

Danielle is a compassionate and generous being that loves life. She is always a giver, never a taker. She has been a dedicated employee for an animal welfare shelter for over 16 years, always going above and beyond for the animals and the community.  Danielle is a care giver for my 95 year old mother, and is exceptionally caring and patient with her. She is a highly trusted and valued pet sitter and all of her clients love her. Danielle is a loyal and trustworthy friend. And she is kindhearted to anyone and everyone, taking time to understand and accept others point of view. Danielle works to take care of herself, to try to stay healthy, physically and mentally. She eats well and regularly exercises.

It breaks my heart to see my wonderful friend suffer the effects of this serious disease.  It is unfair how it has affected her life.  It is maddening that it has been extremely difficult for Danielle to get proper treatment. While she was searching for help, the disease spread.

She finally has found success in finding a team of doctors at Metrohealth in Cleveland, who have given her some light at the end of this dark tunnel.  On May 18, Danielle faces a 3rd surgery as it has been determined that she has stage 4 terminal endometriosis with a frozen pelvis. It is in her bladder and on her bowels. The adhesions have glued organs (bowels, bladder, ovaries) together which causes unbearable pain.

Treatment will start with a hysterectomy as well as an excision, a procedure to surgically remove adhesions and diseased tissue.  This surgery will help relieve a lot of pain but there is no cure for endometriosis. It will involve a hospital stay of several days in Cleveland, several hours from her home. And the surgery may or may not give her relief from the pain. And potentially, there may be a need for even more surgeries.

Danielle needs financial help to get this surgery. Her health insurance has a hefty deductible, which will leave her with a bill well over $7,500.  She will need pelvic floor therapy after surgery and it’s not covered under her insurance.  Her mother will need lodging so she can be near during Danielle’s hospital stay.  Her recovery could be a long one and it will be several weeks, possibly months, before Danielle is able to return to work.

Danielle is a strongly independent woman, never asking or depending on anyone, but all of this could break her financially and put her into a tailspin.

I am asking for help. Your help. Apart from funds towards Danielle’s medical and recovery needs, any additional funds will be directed to other women suffering from endometriosis.  Please help Danielle regain her life.
