Danielle Minor still needs our help after multiple strokes
Donation protected
This beautiful woman pictured; is our loving Danielle Minor. Danielle has been a Licensed Practical Nurse for over two decades in two rehab centers for patients who are not able to go home and require around-the-clock care. Although life has thrown her many curveballs, as we all face, she has always impressed her colleagues and family with how she never let it stop her from doing what she loved. Her compassion for her patients and all of those around her always seemed more important to her than anything on her own plate. Combining that with her independence and drive, she was always able to find solutions for herself and others and support her family as the sole provider, all while making a difference in her little corner of the world. For ALL of these reasons, and so many more, we feel that we must finally ask for help. As a close friend, I have created this GoFundMe petition with the hope and prayer that her community and a few caring people in this universe world will rally around and support someone who has done so much for others; now that she is the one in need.
The Story:
-On February 27th of this year, Danielle woke up and felt "off." She shrugged it off due to weather changes and being tired.
- That morning without much reason, she lost her balance and fell in her bathroom. Shaken up but not injured, she decided to shift plans and run the few necessary errands required for that day with the intent to relax once she got home.
-While driving to complete the last errand, she began to drift side to side and close to the edge of the road. She told me her mind felt foggy, but she pushed through. She admitted to wondering why she felt disoriented but never imagined there was truly a major issue, even with her years of experience and training behind her. Nothing majorly registered dangerous for her to suspect what was coming.
-With errands completed - she made her way home.
-Later that day, Danielle suffered 2 strokes and was transported to the hospital.
The Current Physical Issues She is Facing:
- As of today 4/4/24, the left side of her body is still not as responsive as it should be, and her speech is slurred however improving her standing and walking still brings severe pain.
- She is unable to get dressed without partial assistance.
- She tires easily, and simple daily living skills are taxing on her.
- She shares with us that things are indeed improving, but at such a much slower than anticipated pace.
-The above means that she is still unable to work.
The Technicalities that are making this even MORE challenging:
- When she was released from the hospital after a week’s stay, she was not given any orders from the doctors for any type of recovery therapy. This is currently being addressed but not yet solved.
- Although there is no current professional therapy – Her daughters and friends are relying on their own years of experience and assisting Danielle on working to get stronger in her own home.
- Danielle was advised that short-term disability was not in her employer-sponsored coverage. (Yes, for her Career – we do indeed think this is crazy too – yet it's unchangeable and not worth dwelling on)
Our Request:
A few close friends and her daughters (although in college and paying their own way) have assisted in many ways, monetarily and with acts of service. She and the family have been surviving. But things are starting to stack up to a place where it’s becoming severely taxing on those who have been helping, and some things are starting to fall behind. Danielle was made aware of our intent to create this page. At first, she was not on board. After a day or two, we spoke to her again, and we were able to really discuss why we should create this request, and for all the right reasons. Although not proud to ask for help, she found comfort in asking me to share the following: “ It’s been so hard to require this much assistance and help, with everything I used to do on my own. Especially with finances… and to those that have already helped in ANY way, I am so grateful… So please make sure they know how appreciative I already am, and will continue to be for anything anyone gives. I really just need to be able to get by and stay afloat.’
Danielle still has such a positive outlook and continually tells us she will continue to fight for herself daily to heal. And to be honest, as her friend, I know her spirit will never accept anything less than a complete recovery. I know she will put in the effort required for it as she has been so far. I think her biggest disappointment is that it's not as fast as she would like to see it happen.
Fund Usage:
With any and all donations, Danielle will prioritize the usage of them to keep her rent and basic key monthly bills up to date. The remaining funds will go toward groceries, co-payments, and deductibles as she heals. Our dream would be to hit our goal of 6 months of financial coverage – which is roughly $25,000. Our needed number at this time is to just keep going at this time is $10,000
