Help Danielle prevent hereditary cancer
Donation protected
I found out last year that I have the rare BRCA1 mutation, which I inherited from my mom.
I have an 87% chance of developing breast cancer and a 65% chance of developing ovarian cancer. I watched my mom at 43 develop breast cancer and supported her for three years as her primary caregiver until her death in 2006.
This year, I will be getting a prophylactic double mastectomy and a salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes.) These surgeries will help me break the hereditary cancer cycle to reclaim a life that is cancer-free. I’m a young Portland community member who wants the opportunity to live a long, healthy life and have a family.
My aim is to raise $30,000 to go towards the long process of surgeries, secure mental heath support, and cover household bills while I am out of work for two months recovering. Any amount you can donate is so so so appreciated.
I’ve gained a whole new perspective on how easy it is for a medical condition to consume a person and leave them in a terrifying amount of debt. I’m going to have a long year ahead of me but I feel very grounded in knowing this is the right path for me. If you had the opportunity to save your future self from cancer, wouldn’t you ?
Warmly,
Danielle
