Support Danny Mendez and Family
Hi, I'm Gabrielle, Danny Mendez's niece, and I'm organizing this fundraiser on behalf of the Mendez family. Many of you reading this may not know that for the past ten years, Danny has been struggling with NAFLD (Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease). Over the last year, the side effects of his liver failure have resulted in over 20 trips to the ER. Currently he is fighting for his life at UW Medical Center in Seattle, WA.
Doctors believe that Danny's chances of survival are reliant on a liver transplant. On June 28th, Danny and his son Malachi traveled to Seattle to have tests done to see if Malachi was a good candidate to donate his liver. Doctors did not expect for Danny's health condition to escalate so quickly, and on the morning ofJuly 2nd, he went into kidney failure, now needing a kidney transplant as well. Although Malachi was a perfect match to donate a portion of his liver, Danny's recent kidney failure has resulted in him needing a whole new liver.
What will funds be used for?
When Danny's condition worsened two years ago, he was let go from his place of employment and has been living without income, unemployment benefits, or disability ever since.
Funds raised will first be used to take care of keeping their home, utilities and bills paid, as well as for food and transportation to and from Seattle for his wife and caretakers during the 4-6 month post op recovery, as insurance is only covering the operation and lodging for Danny.
Thank You
If you've known Danny for any amount of time, you know that he is often the first to offer help and the last to accept it. For as long as I can remember, my Tio Danny has been a shining example of what it means to lead with love and generosity. We all appreciate you taking the time to read this, and for your calls and prayers during this difficult time. As we learn more, we will post updates here.
