Help Dave Berberick After Maple Grove House Fire

Donation protected

Dave is my father-in-law. He is one of the most kind, patient and giving people you will ever know. He was also forced to face one of the most terrible events imaginable.

On May 4th, the life he knew and loved changed forever in the terrifying moments when a house fire tragically claimed the life of his wife, seriously burned him and destroyed their home.

For 32 days following the devastating fire, Dave clung to life in the HCMC burn unit from the injuries he sustained while trying to save his wife.

Throughout this process, Dave and his family have been in awe at how amazing people are. The love and support of family, friends and strangers will never be forgotten. One of the people who has been instrumental in helping Dave organize his living arrangements is Jill Weaver. She has written the following kind words to share this fundraiser in her and Dave's neighborhood:

Dave Berberick, our neighbor, a newly grieving widower and fire survivor, needs our help now!

It’s been a long time since I’ve encountered someone in our community who has experienced such a profound loss of life, love, and every personal belonging imaginable.

Almost 45 years ago, Dave and his wife Mary Jo built a home in Maple Grove, MN, where they lived an idyllic life raising their two daughters and spent precious time with their five grandchildren.

Mary Jo was the love of Dave’s life, his true soul mate, a teacher in our community, the anchor of their family, the devoted mother of their two daughters and a doting grandmother to their five grandchildren.

For the past few months, he has been recovering from his physical wounds while grappling with the unwelcome and unending grief of living life without his loving wife by his side.

To add insult to injury, a few weeks ago, he learned that their house was grossly underinsured, and he would not be able to rebuild on the land they’ve called home for the last 45 years.

Last week, he made a brave and difficult decision and secured a small, modest townhome nearby.

Many of you have asked how you can help.

A GoFundMe has been established in Dave’s name. Your generous gifts will help cushion this painful blow and help replace the tangible items taken from him in the fire.

Here is our opportunity to join together synergistically and bless Dave with random acts of kindness.

We want Dave’s new home to be a healing sanctuary as he settles in and continues to navigate his grief journey. Imagine the constant love and support he will feel from the gifts of our donations.

Let’s fill his new home with comfy furniture and all the household items needed to make this lil’ house feel more like home. Let's help him pay his past and ongoing medical bills.

If there has ever been a time to rally around someone in our community, that time is now.

Please donate as you feel led, share this page with your friends, and pray for Dave as he continues navigating this season of grief.❤️
