Dave Stevenson's Cancer Battle
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser for Dave Stevenson, affectionately known to his friends and family as Uncle Dave or Uncle Crusty. Dave has been recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer, called Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma. It's estimated that no more than 5,000 people in the United States have this disease, and it's an aggressive, fast-moving cancer that spread from his forehead to his parotid glands, and then into his lungs - all in less than 8 weeks.
Dave has been staying at his niece's home in Southern California, where her husband is a surgeon, to seek care at UCLA Medical Center because it is one of only 6 cancer centers in the US that are recognized for expertise in treating this rare cancer. Despite the rapid progression of his cancer, the team at UCLA, in collaboration with USC Keck Cancer Center and Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, feel that Dave has a fighting chance to control the cancer and preserve his quality of life for many more years.
A longtime resident of Eureka, MT, Dave moved there when his nephew Roger Harrison purchased a local bar named Trappers Saloon and was there to help him with anything needed to turn it into the gathering place it is today. Recently Dave was dealt another terrible blow. While Dave was in the hospital in Los Angeles, Roger died of a heart attack on July 31. Dave is heartbroken, and even more determined to get back to Eureka, his home and the community of friends and family he and Roger built together.
On the day of his death, Roger had been planning a fundraiser for his Uncle Dave to be held at Trapper's.
Your donation will help cover what health insurance won't, contribute toward travel expenses to allow Dave to travel home in between treatments, and make up for lost income while he devotes his time and energy to battling this rare cancer. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you so much!
