Help David and Philip Rebuild

Many of you know I lived in east Africa for a while over a decade ago working to invest in and help grow the businesses of young Kenyan entrepreneurs. During my time there, I met many amazing people - one of them is a dear friend, Alfhonce Muli. Since we met each other through Christian or Christian-adjacent organizations, it took us both some time to come out to each other, but we have since supported each others’ lives and journeys.

This morning I awoke to the news that their home was burned to the ground and that Alfhonce’s boyfriend Philip was beaten within an inch of his life … because they are gay.

When the United Methodist Church preaches hate against queer people and pretends like there are no ramifications, that this is somehow just a difference of opinion despite the millions of dollars and decades it has spent teaching hate all over the African continent, it lies. There is a real human cost. There is real human suffering.

Please help David and Philip with any extra dollars you might have to spare right now.
