Help Dawit Girma Recover After Stroke and Kidney Failure

Introduction

Dawit Girma Haile is the kind of person who lights up every room with his humor, humility, and kindness. Dawit has always been someone who brings joy and warmth to those around him.

But now, this young mechanical engineer, who has spent years helping others, is facing his biggest challenge yet. After miraculously recovering from kidney failure, Dawit suffered a severe stroke on February 4, 2025. He has been in the hospital for almost two months, undergoing major brain surgery, tracheostomy, and feeding tube surgeries. He is currently at Kindred Hospital Seattle, unconscious and needing dialysis three times a week.

Dawit is a fighter. But this time, he needs our help.

Who is Dawit?

Dawit is more than just a brilliant mechanical engineer. He is a friend, a brother, a mentor, and a source of strength for so many. He is the kind of person who lifts others up, offering wisdom, encouragement, and support without expecting anything in return. Whether it was guiding young engineers, helping a friend in need, or simply lending an ear, Dawit always put others first.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dawit is known as an amazing coach. Not just in engineering but in life and faith. He has a way of inspiring people with his words, offering both personal and spiritual advice to those struggling with challenges of their own. He has a gift for making people feel heard, valued, and loved.

For the past five years, Dawit has been away from his beloved family in Ethiopia. Yet, despite this distance, he has remained a pillar of strength not only for them but for everyone who has had the privilege of knowing him. Now, he needs us to be there for him.

Dawit’s Medical Journey

Dawit spent nearly ten years as an aircraft technician and quality assurance manager at Ethiopian Airlines before moving to the United States after winning the Diversity Visa lottery. His journey took a challenging turn when, after just a year in the U.S., he was diagnosed with kidney failure due to high blood pressure. He spent three years on dialysis, first in a hospital and later at home, while waiting to be placed on the transplant list.

Then, something truly miraculous happened. His kidneys slowly recovered, shocking even his doctors. After nearly four years of struggle, he was finally able to stop dialysis and return to a more normal life.

He continued his career, first as a quality assurance engineer for a Boeing vendor, then at Boeing itself. He was rebuilding his life, full of gratitude and hope.

Then, on February 4, 2025, tragedy struck again. Dawit suffered a sudden and severe stroke. He has undergone multiple surgeries, including brain surgery, a tracheostomy, and a feeding tube insertion. He has been unconscious for weeks, and his medical journey is far from over. He is now in long-term acute care at Kindred Hospital Seattle, receiving dialysis three times a week and needing intensive rehabilitation.

His family is in Ethiopia and unable to be by his side. He needs all the support he can get—financially, spiritually, and emotionally.

ዳዊት ግርማ ደግና ትሁት መሃንዲስ ነው:: በለጋስነቱ እና በእውቀቱ ብዙዎችን የባረከና በቀላሉ ከሰዎች የሚግባባ ሰው ነው። ጓደኛ፣ ወንድም፣ መካሪ እና ለብዙዎች የብርታት ምንጭ ነው። ዳዊት የአሜሪካ ዲቪ ደርሶት አንድ ዓመት እንደ ቆየ የሁለቱም ኩላሊት አለመስራት ከተነገረው በኋላ፣ ለሶስት ዓመታት ያህልም በኩላሊት እጥበት ቆይቶ ተዓምረዊ በሆነ ሁኔታ ኩላሊቶቹ ሙሉ በሙሉ ተፈወሰዉ ለአንድ ዓመት የሚሆን ጊዜ በጤንነት ላይ ቆይቷል። በጥር 27, 2017 በቅርቡ ከፍተኛ የደም መፍሰስ በአእምሮ ውስጥ (stroke) ደርሶበታል። በሆስፒታሉ የተለያዩ የቀዶ ጥገና አሰራር ሂደቶችን አልፎ፣ አሁን በሳምንት 3 ጊዜ የኩላሊት እጥበት እየተደረገለት ይገኛል። ከህክምና በተጨማሪ የእኛን እርዳታ ይፈልጋል። ዳዊት የሌሎችን ችግር እያየ ማለፍ የማይችል፣ ሁል ጊዜ ማገልገልን የሚወድ፣ ለብዙዎች በረከት የሆነ ሰው ነው። ላለፉት አምስት አመታት ኢትዮጵያ ከሚኖሩ ከሚወደው ቤተሰቡ ርቆ ቆይቷል። ሆኖም ለእነርሱ የጥንካሬ ምሰሶ ሆኖ ቆይቷል። ለብዙ ጓደኞቹ እና በአሜሪካ ውስጥ እሱን ለሚያውቁት ታላቅ ድጋፍም ሆኖ ቆይቷል። አሁን ግን እርሱ ድጋፍ ይፈልጋል። እርዳታችን የህክምና ወጪዎች : የህክምና ባለሙያዎች ድጋፍ: የእርዳታ ሰጪ መሳሪያዎች ግዢ : የቤተሰብ ድጋፍ : እነዚህንና ተመሳሳይ ወጪ ለማሟሟላት ነው። ዳዊት የእኛን ድጋፍ ይፈልጋልና የተቻለልን ያክል እንዘርጋ።
