Help Dawn Through Her Recovery

Early morning on February 15th, 2023, my mom suddenly had a severe headache. Thankfully, she decided to call 911 and was brought to Mercy Hospital via ambulance. After arriving at the ER she found out the headache was the result of a combination of a few things: a fracture in the back of her skull, a concussion, and a brain bleed. In the last couple of weeks, we have learned her injury is likely due to a slip on ice in her driveway.

After 6 days in the ICU, and two more on a general care floor, my mom was released. She has been staying with my aunt Julie during this time, as she is unable to drive, cook, clean, or be alone at night. We don't anticipate her returning home alone for a while. Doctors have told her she won't return to her work, even part-time, until April. My mother also waitresses part-time to make ends meet, and she also won't be able to return to that until summertime.

My mother is still having issues with balance, eyesight, and alertness. We don't anticipate this improving quickly. I am in Minnesota for the next two weeks, but I am will be returning to grad school in Pennsylvania following that. At this point, the crux of her care will fall on Julie.

We are asking for help making ends meet: paying my mother's bills and the medical deductible and further costs. She has been without income for two weeks already and will be for at least another 4. I don't earn an income as a student and we are looking at a long road ahead of us.

We are currently exploring all avenues, including disability and other assistance, but we know it won't be enough. Anything you can offer to help, even if it is just sharing this story with your friends, will be a big help.
