Let's Support Dawnelle's Muscular Dystrophy Needs

I'm Rachel Weber, and Dawnelle and I have known each other nearly 40 years – from elementary school, Girl Scouts (shoutout Troop 303!), through high school, and beyond. She's a mom to Connor, a writer with published poetry, a jewelry-maker, a creative spirit, and a victim of adult-onset Muscular Dystrophy who needs our help now. She hates to ask for help and doesn't want to be a burden – that's where you and I come in.

 

Dawnelle was diagnosed with adult-onset Muscular Dystrophy in 2013 – a condition that, after multiple falls, has recently worsened to the point that she can no longer walk, work full time, or live the independent life she once enjoyed. In addition to the physical pain, this disease comes with a lot of burden, so I hope you'll join me in trying to ease the pain that we can – the strain on her finances and on her 14 year-old son, Connor, who plays a huge role in helping her with the basics that most of us take for granted (like cooking, and chores around the house, etc. ) when he's not with his Dad (they share 50-50 custody).

 

Her most immediate expenses are a motorized wheelchair that will give her back some independence around the house and a stove with buttons on the front – she LOVES to cook, but she can't reach the buttons on her current stove. Dawnelle's also in the process of hiring a contractor to make ADA-compliant adjustments to her home, which will cost several thousand dollars.

 

Once her wheelchair arrives, she'll need help in getting groceries, etc. She currently lives in Deltona, so if you can help with non-financial contributions like this, please reach out to us.

 

Additionally, in the next few months, she'll need a wheelchair van, which runs $20-40k, so this fundraiser is just the start. Every little bit helps, and I know she'll be grateful for every cent. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
