Help Father Justin

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Rachel, and on behalf of Holyrood Anglican Mission I am raising funds for Rev Justin DeVantier's anticipated legal fees.

Justin has been faithfully serving as chaplain at a nearby hospice and was wrongfully terminated for carrying out his duties within the guidelines of the denomination in which he is ordained (the United Episcopal Church of North America, or UECNA).

Help protect religious liberty in the workplace.

On Friday, July 28th, 2023, Rev Justin DeVantier was terminated from his position as a
hospice chaplain with Liberty Homecare and Hospice. This termination was
retaliation for Rev DeVantier’s non-compliance with a previous order from his
supervisor which forbade Rev. DeVantier from offering sacramental wine to hospice
patients during Holy Communion and further prohibited Rev. DeVantier from partaking
in the sacramental wine with the patents during Holy Communion.
In an email received by Rev. DeVantier, his supervisor wrote,

“The more I think about the use of a real alcoholic beverage for communion the
more I'm against it. For one thing we need a doctor's order to give patients an
alcoholic beverage because it can interfere with their medication metabolism and
can affect their disease process. So effective immediately please refrain from
using the alcoholic beverage”

She also wrote,

“You must also refrain from drinking the alcoholic beverage while on duty”

To put it succinctly,
Liberty Homecare & Hospice DO NOT have the legal or religious authority to

1. Forbid the usage of wine in communion by Rev. DeVantier

2. Forbid the consumption of wine by Rev. DeVantier in the ritual of Holy Communion

3. Forbid the Rev DeVantier from asking patients who identify as Christian and have
opted into chaplain services if they would like to receive holy communion.

4. Require or recommend that Rev DeVantier needs further training because of the
lawful and faithful execution of his duties as a hospice chaplain and ordained
clergyman.

5. Terminate the employment of Rev DeVantier as retaliation for non-compliance with a
discriminatory, illegal, and unconstitutional order by Liberty Homecare and Hospice
In the weeks after his termination, Rev DeVantier compiled his evidence and made a
formal petition and complaint to the human resources dept. of Liberty Homecare &
Hospice seeking reconciliation with the company and the rescinding of his termination.
Unfortunately, Liberty Homecare & Hospice has been non-cooperative and has made
it necessary to settle this matter in a court of law.

Rev. DeVantier has gone to great lengths to settle this matter in a pastoral and ethical
manner but the time come for Rev. DeVantier to stand up for his,

Faith
Family
Reputation
& Constitutional Rights.

Therefore, Rev DeVantier is asking for donations for his legal expenses in his fight to
hold Liberty Homecare and Hospice accountable for their discriminatory, illegal and
unconstitutional actions in an effort to make sure religious liberty in the workplace is
respected.

In a world that is increasingly hostile to the freedom of religion, it is important that all
people of faith stand together in the face of oppression and hold those to account who
would take away our constitutional rights.
As Churchill once quoted
“All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing”
Please stand with Rev. DeVantier to protect religious liberty in the workplace.
*All excess funds not used in legal expenses in Rev DeVantier’s case will be donated to
Holyrood Anglican Mission who will use the excess funds for local missions and ministry.
