Help defending Kosay, victim of KZ Bloody January

We are a Kazakh Initiative against Cruelty and Kleptocracy (KICK), a group of ex- Kazakhstani living across western democracies that came together in response to the tragic events known as Qandy Qantar, Bloody January of 2022. Our mission is to help seek justice for the victims of the Bloody January torture and terror through international mechanisms. Kosay Makhanbaev, a resident of Almaty and a doctor by training is one of the people that need our support. He was shot during the peaceful protest and removed from a hospital bed into detention where he received harrowing physical and mental abuse. His relentless search for justice meant that he remains behind bars to this day- beaten, tortured, but not broken. We are now collecting donations to hire a reputable human rights law firm to submit a complaint for Kosay to the United Nations Human Rights Committee where we believe he has a strong case to obtain justice. We are targeting 9000 Euros, which, once Kosay’s case comes through appellate courts in Kazakhstan would allow us to  build a case, lodge the complaint and support further proceedings and clarifications. Success of this endeavour is vital not just for him, but it sets a precedent for many others seeking justice in the aftermath of Qantar and puts the government on the spot.
